Information regarding Student Exchange Accounts

All students at the University are given a computer account that provides email services. These accounts are created when the student is first admitted to the University. Once the student has activated their account, it becomes their official University email account. This service is run in the Unix environment.

Exchange accounts are given to faculty/staff on request. Students can be granted access to Exchange if it  is required for their work in a university department. There are two options available for allowing student access to Exchange services.

  1. Premium Exchange Account

Departments can purchase premium exchange accounts for students.  Premium accounts are personalized accounts, the student's name will be listed in the GAL and the email address is created with an alias.  The alias will consist of the student's first intial and last name.  The annual fee is $75.00 per account with the first year being pro-rated.  The ITS CSS Contact must complete and submit the Premium Exchange Account for Student Use form to the ITS CSS Accounts and Access office at 2-3847. Students must also have a Windows Network Access account.

  2. Generic Exchange Account for Student Access

One or more students can be given access to this account.  It can be used to send and receive email using a generic alias, and has access to a common calendar. To request this type of account, complete and submit a New Generic Exchange Account for Student Access form to the ITS CSS Accounts office at 2-3847. Please note: The alias assigned will be representative of the purpose for the Exchange account. For example, if the request is from the Registrar’s office, the alias might be registrar01. Personalized aliases are not available with this option.

These accounts are reusable by simply removing and/or adding student access.  To change who can access this account complete and submit a Reassignment of Student Generic Exchange Account for Individual Access form to the ITS CSS Accounts at 2-3847.
