Access from Off-Campus with VPN
Many of the University's IT systems are web-based, providing access to these resources from anywhere with an Internet connection. To access personal or shared folders or the desktop version of Exchange/Outlook email, members of the campus community can download Virtual Private Network (VPN) software free of charge. VPN lets you connect to the campus network in order to access these resources.

Blackboard and Classroom Technology
ITS offers a variety of instructional technologies, such as Blackboard, to supplement the face-to-face or online classroom experience. Many services, including the Information Commons, test scanning, file space for faculty and students to share, and faculty web space are also available.
Communication Technology
LISTSERV lists, video conferencing, websites and wikis offer a variety of options for sharing information and working with others.
Computing Facilities and Printing
Public computers with University-owned software and printers are available in the Information Commons in all three University Libraries. ITS supports the technology available in several conference rooms on the Main and Downtown campuses.
File Storage and Sharing
ITS provides a secure, central location for the UAlbany community to store and share electronic files and information.
Professional Development & Training
Improve your IT skills with a variety of workshops, seminars and training classes offered across the campus and through the SUNY system.
Research
ITS maintains a high-performance computing environment in support of the University research community.
Software
University-licensed software is in all Registrar-scheduled technology-enhanced classrooms and the Information Commons; most of it can be accessed from off-campus using the Virtual Information Commons. Many packages are available for purchase for University-owned machines. Visit e-Academy for special pricing on a variety of software programs for personally owned machines.
Web Support
The University uses the RedDot Content Management System to maintain official departmental websites. Additional information is available for faculty and staff who maintain web pages for offices, departments and personal use.
