Hijack This Utility

   Experience Level III

  Malware Detection and Deletion Utility

 Free for Personal use

Description of the Hijack This Utility:
This finds all programs and files that are starting up and/or hooking into existing files. It's very useful for finding malware and spyware which otherwise go undetected.

Basic Instructions for use:
The Hijack This utility is very useful for finding browser hijacks, and other browser or start-up related malware. However, this is not a spyware scanner. It shows results of malicious AND legitimate plug-ins, toolbars, registry keys, etc. With this in mind, you need to be careful when using Hijack This.

To use, download and then run the program. You will want to click on either 'Scan and save a log" or 'Just Scan'. The log files are useful for comparing your results with those posted online. Before scanning, you also have an option to take a backup. This is a good idea if you are just learning the program.

NOTICE:
Please use carefully, not all items detected are bad. In fact, most are not. Removing components may cause errors within your system. Please refer to the Hijack This website for more information
