ITS is pleased to announce the introduction of a new service - Wikis @ UAlbany. A wiki is a website that allows users to create and edit content collaboratively.
The service, currently under development, is offered to members of the campus community on a space-available basis.
- Spaces will be given on a first come, first served basis.
- Wiki spaces are currently designed to support instructional and non-instructional endeavors in support of University-related activities. Faculty/staff members who are actively employed may request a wiki. Recognized student organizations will need a faculty/staff member to sponsor and serve as primary owner of a wiki.
Wikis are intended to support official University business activities. The current service is not available to support wiki spaces for individual use.
Once the wiki request form has been received by Client Support Services (CSS), please allow 2 to 3 business days for your request to be processed.
After the wiki space has been created and the owner has been granted access, the owner is responsible for granting the permissions to other users. In the case of “Instructional Wiki” spaces that are used as a tool for courses, CSS will create the spaces so that the registered students of the class will automatically have access to the space after one business day. Adds and drops will be reconciled daily. Please note that only registered students will be automatically added; should you wish to allow access to other users (i.e. teaching assistants), please view the instructions on how to add users and permissions.
- By default, spaces created for instructional purposes will be created so that the space is private and can only be accessed by the instructor nd students enrolled in the course(s).
- If an instructor wishes to use re-use content from a UAlbany-hosted wiki space developed previously, or wishes to continue development from semester to semester, permission of students who have contributed to the wiki must be secured. Each student must submit the signed and notarized Student Consent Form To Release Information before the space can be made available.
- For more information about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and this consent requirement visit: http://www.albany.edu/ir/rtk
