Getting Started with BLS
Faculty who are interested in using Blackboard in their courses must request a course shell each semester. Courses are backed up regularly with a final archive occurring 2 weeks after final grades have been posted and access is removed after the start of the following semester.
Please note that for your convenience, archived copies of courses are retained for 2 years after it was offered. Archives after that time frame have lapsed will not be available. Below are instructions for getting started using BLS.
1. Request your course - Complete the course request form at: http://www.albany.edu/its/bls/blsrequest_form.htm . IMPORTANT: make sure to accurately fill in all requested information. You will be notified when your course shell has been created. If you are new to using BLS CE6 at UAlbany, you will also be enrolled in a self-paced online basic training course.
2. Logon to BLS - Go to http://bls.its.albany.edu/ and enter your NetID and UNIX password. If necessary, you can set/reset your UNIX password and verify your NetID at http://www.albany.edu/its/.
3. Locate your course title - in the "Course List" section on your My Blackboard page and click on the link to access the course.
4. Design your course - The BLS basic training course will provide the information you need to get you started. If you have any additional questions or would like assistance with course design, check the BLS Workshop schedule for open workshops and advanced topics in using BLS, or contact Faculty Technology Resources (FTR) at 518.442.4288 and request a consultation.
You will not be able to log into Blackboard if you are not associated with a course using BLS (i.e., instructor, teaching assistant or student).
