Summary: On May 9 2006 Microsoft released the latest in its monthly string of security bulletins. The May edition of the security bulletin summary includes three items; two of the items (MS06-019 and MS06-020) have been deemed "critical" by the vendor. According to at least one security-related resource, a fix included in one of the updates may affect the sending of mail from BlackBerry devices; Microsoft has issued a knowledge base article that details this issue and presents a viable workaround.
Recommended Actions: Windows System Administrators and other Support Personnel are encouraged to read the Security Bulletin and (if appropriate) apply the patch(es) at their earliest convenience. Administrators that support BlackBerry devices should read the knowledge base article. Links are provided below for the bulletin and article.
ITS Actions: ITS Systems Management and Operations Staff will apply all necessary patches to the appropriate ITS servers as part of the next scheduled system update.
