Summary: Shortly after the release of Microsoft's February Security bulletin (2/14/06), several Internet Security Monitoring agencies reported a problem with the download and installation of the Security Bulletin MS06-007 patch *when using the Microsoft Update website or autoupdate software*. A Direct download from the Security Update KB913446 site link (link provided below) did not seem to suffer from this problem, and system administrators were encouraged to use the direct download site link if they experienced install problems and/or wanted to install the update immediately.
Representatives from Microsoft are now reporting (2/15/06) that the download error issue has been fixed and the update can be successfully obtained from the Microsoft Update Site and/or autoupdate software.
Recommended Actions: Windows system managers and support personnel that have not yet installed MS06-007 (or any of the February Security Updates) are encouraged to do so using their preferred method of download. As always, careful reading of documentation/caveats associated with each security updates is also encouraged.
