Empowering People Through Information

The Department of Information Science educates, challenges, and inspires library, archival, and information professionals to be leaders in an information-driven and interconnected society. The collection, organization, retrieval, preservation, management, and dissemination of information resources enrich cultures within society and promote equity, diversity, accountability, and intellectual development.

The department is home to a strong B.S. in Informatics program that prepares graduates to apply technology across disciplines in a number of ever-expanding information technology careers. Our Master of Science in Information Science (MSIS) program is one of 50 library and information science programs in the US to be accredited by the American Library Association, and our interdisciplinary Ph.D. program prepares graduates for leadership roles in the information science field or in academia.

In every area of study, students are instructed by faculty who are world-class scholars and teachers - many are actively engaged in research and scholarship that contribute profoundly to the public good. Graduates occupy top jobs in academic, public, school, corporate, and government libraries and archives, as well as in many other information-handling organizations throughout the world.

We offer courses in traditional, online, and blended formats. Read more about our online program and courses here.

Detailed information about our different programs and requirements can be found on our Undergraduate Programs and Graduate Programs pages.
