Course Requirements

Each semester students in the CPSP classes (RSSW 290, 291 and 390) are expected to complete several requirements at an approved Organization. These include a commitment agreement, a learning contract, a reflective essay and the required minimum number of hours for the course in which they are enrolled.

Commitment Agreement Form: Students are asked to initial and sign the Commitment Agreement. This agreement affirms their willingness to complete all required assignments by the due dates, as well as verifies their understanding that they must bring any concerns they have to their supervisor. The student also agrees that they cannot drive Organization clients in their cars, nor can they be paid for volunteer hours completed for course credit.

Learning Contract: Students create a learning contract which both they and their supervisor sign. This is the basis for accreditation and includes specific duties, work times and expected learning objectives.

Course Readings: Students in RSSW-390 are required to complete at least three selected course readings.

Log of Hours: This is a form that the student uses to keep track of their volunteer hours that they’ve completed for their Organization. When all hours have been completed and noted on the log, it is signed by both supervisor and student and returned by the noted deadline for that semester.

Reflective Essay: Students are asked to reflect on their Organization experience. In the 390 course, this essay is grounded in the course readings and essay expectations are commensurate with an advanced level course.

Evaluations: Final evaluations for 8 week 2 students and full semester students are completed by the on-site supervisor and reviewed by the CPSP staff. Students are required to complete a course evaluation.
