The multi-service Organization reaches out to children, families and individuals
infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. It provides a year-round camp/respite in
the scenic Adirondacks, housing in Albany, chaplain services, a spirituality
group for women and clothing, food and furniture.
Community Service students will be involved in the =national Make a Difference
Day that is held every year on the last Saturday of October. The Points of
Light Foundation and USA Weekend sponsor this event. The web site is http://www.usaweekend.com/diffday
The Organization is planning an event in Albany to promote a day of volunteerism
across the city. Special events will occur in different areas. The Mayor's
office has been involved in coordinating activities among the Neighborhood
Watch Associations, youth summer program, volunteer centers and schools. So
far the goals of the project will be to prepare a needs assessment, to develop
projects, to prepare on-line, web site documents. Students majoring in public
administration, communications, criminal justice and social welfare will find
this an appropriate placement.
