Finding the right funding Opportunity is Critical! Take the right steps to optimize your chances for success:

  • Search Funding Opportunities – Search the Student Grants Database under Awards & Funding (on the left navigation bar) to identify a funding opportunity that might be of interest. These funding opportunities are typically offered by federal and state agencies, private sponsors, and the University.
  • Good Fit – After finding a potential funding opportunity, the next step is to determine if it is a good fit for you. Carefully review the funding opportunity overview, guidance, and eligibility criteria to ensure you are able to apply, then review the application process, and the key dates to make certain you can complete and submit the application on time.
  • Talk to a Mentor / Trusted Colleagues - You should talk with your faculty mentor, advisor and/or other trusted colleagues to discuss the funding opportunity and seek their thoughts and suggestions.
  • Contact the Sponsor – Reach out to the program officer/manager of the funding opportunity to share your proposal concept, and inquire about guidance on the funding opportunity. Be sure to fully read the funding announcement beforehand.
