ALBANY, N.Y. (June 9, 2005) - The University at Albany today learned from authorities at Guinness World Records that its students, faculty, and staff now hold the record for the world's largest pillow fight.

A total of 3,648 pillow pugilists entered into the feathered fray in an event staged on the University's front lawn on April 17, 2005, beating the previous record of 2,773 held by the Lands' End company. The massive UAlbany crowd of cushion crushing college kids pummeled each other for a full minute.

"It was a great day for the University," said Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Christine Bouchard. "It was a signature event for a day of abundant school pride and spirit."

The event was held as part of the University's Fountain Day, the annual rite of spring when the main fountain on the campus podium is turned on for the season. The pillows, which were distributed by the University per Guinness World Record regulations, were donated to charities after the epic battle.
