UAlbany Student-Athletes Named to America East Honor Roll

UAlbany indoor track athlete Laura Cummings is one of more than 180 University student-athletes recognized by the America East Conference for their outstanding academic achievements.

More than 180 University at Albany student-athletes were named to the 2008-2009 America East Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll. The distinction recognizes student-athletes who earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. Nearly 80 UAlbany student-athletes were also named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The UAlbany women�s indoor track and field team garnered the highest number of honorees for the Great Danes, with 31 student-athletes earning recognition. The women�s outdoor track and field team posted 30 members to the honor roll, while the indoor and outdoor men�s programs named 23 and 21 representatives, respectively. Women�s lacrosse featured 20 honorees, including 13 student-athletes who earned the Commissioner�s Honor Roll distinction -- the highest among UAlbany's sports teams.

The women�s basketball team boasted seven members on the honor roll, while five student-athletes from the men�s basketball earned recognition. Fifteen members of the men's lacrosse team were recognized, including five who were named to the Commissioner�s Honor Roll. UAlbany baseball and softball programs garnered 11 and nine representatives, respectively. Four golf team members earned honor roll accolades, while seven UAlbany tennis athletes received recognition.

Four UAlbany students were recently honored as Chancellor's Scholar Athletes by State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher, recognizing their academic excellence and athletic achievement at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I. The UAlbany students recognized were Katie Neer, a senior women's lacrosse player from Baldwinsville, N.Y; men's soccer player Steward Ceus, a senior from West Haverstraw, N.Y.; Nasim Siddeeq of men's track, a junior from West Hampton, N.Y.; and women's track standout Kamilah McShine, a senior from Spring Valley, N.Y.
