Campaign Update Apple Computers has given a $111,000 gift of equipment to the University in support of the new Life Sciences building, which is expected to open next summer. Since the groundbreaking two years ago, the University has received four separate million dollar gifts for the facility, which will enable the University to pioneer cutting-edge research into the causes and cures of disease.
Schools and Colleges New Major In Broadcast Meteorology Offered UAlbany's Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences is offering a new major in broadcast meteorology this semester. The 60-credit interdisciplinary program leads to a bachelor of arts. The major was created for students pursuing a meteorology career in TV or radio broadcasting, rather than the more typical “behind-the-scenes” weather forecasting position. Details.
School of Social Welfare Receives Grants UAlbany’s School of Social Welfare recently was awarded four grants by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services The School received more than $3 million in funding for research in child welfare and family programs and services. The grants will fund three doctoral dissertations, a three-year evaluation of Family Support Programs, a five-year initiative to address Healthy Marriages and Family Formation, and a five-year initiative involving the Recruitment and Retention of child welfare workers. "Correspondence" has just been selected as a finalist for the
Actors Theatre of Louisville 2003 Heideman Award/National Ten-Minute Play
Contest. Sociology Professor Marvin Krohn and Kimberly Tobin (Ph.D., Sociology),
co-authors of “Gangs & Delinquency in Developmental Perspective,”
won the American Society of Criminology 2003 Michael J. Hindelang Award
for the most outstanding contribution to research in criminology. Athletics
