Associate Vice President for Student Success
John M. Murphy joined the University at Albany as a graduate assistant in 1973. During the past 40 years, he has held several positions in Student Success including Associate Director of Residential Life, Director of Judicial Affairs and Assistant Vice President. He currently provides leadership for Student Involvement and Leadership, including Greek Affairs, Campus Recreation, the Campus Center, the Disability Resource Center, and Career Services. He is an elected University Senator and serves on several Councils and Committees. He is a member of Phi Alpha Theta, International History Honor Society, Golden Key Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa. He chairs the Presidential appointed campus Brisk Committee charged with assessing and developing policies to ensure the safety of all campus stakeholders. He believes successful students are both academically disciplined and socially responsible. Mr. Murphy, a recipient of the President’s and Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Services was recognized with the Albany County DWI Community Service Award and the Student Association Outstanding Partnership award in 2005. In 2007 and 2011 he was recognized by the Student Association as an outstanding faculty mentor and academic of the year.
