Snow Emergencies
The City of Albany will typically declare a snow emergency if there is more than 5 inches of snow.
When the City of Albany declares a snow emergency, it is mandatory that you remove your vehicle from the side of the street with odd numbered buildings. Cars parked on the street can only be parked on the EVEN NUMBERED SIDE OF THE STREET for the 24-hour period beginning at 8:00 PM Tuesday evening.
DO NOT PARK ON THE ODD NUMBERED SIDE OF THE STREET FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS! Parking there will result in your vehicle being towed and ticketed. Snow removal equipment will proceed to remove snow from the odd numbered side of the streets, throughout the City, for the next 24 hours.
After 24 hours from the time the SNOW EMERGENCY goes into effect, the parking restrictions reverse. BEGINNING AT 8:00 PM ON WEDNESDAY EVENING DO NOT PARK ON THE EVEN NUMBERED SIDE OF THE STREET FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS! During the second 24-hour phase of the SNOW EMERGENCY, snow removal equipment will be removing snow from the even numbered side of the streets throughout the City. Parking on the even numbered side of the street during this 24 hour period will result in your vehicle being ticketed and towed.
After 48 hours from the initially designated time, at 8:00 PM on Thursday evening the SNOW EMERGENCY will be officially declared over and normal parking regulations and restrictions go back into effect.
For SNOW EMERGENCY information, call 476-SNOW, or log onto the City web www.ALBANYNY.GOV. If your vehicle has been towed, call 458-5675. Snow Emergency brochures, which outline all of the Snow Emergency procedures, can be picked up at any City firehouse, police station or branches of the Albany Public Library.
