How do I know what’s going on at UAlbany?
The University has a great number of programs and events going on every day. One of the best places to go to find out what is happening on campus is the Spirit Zone. This is a
web site that hosts the student events calendar as well as a lot of other helpful information about campus events and activities.
What do I do if I want to be more involved in the campus community?
We recommend that you attend as many campus events/programs as possible. From major events such as Homecoming to smaller activities such as Danes After Dark arts and crafts nights, to our community service opportunities and over 250 student organizations we literally have something for everyone. Whether your interests are more academic, favor the performing arts, or you’re a big sports fan there are so many interesting things to do on campus every single week. Students who attend activities on campus soon commit themselves to their favorite activities/groups and become very involved students and student leaders. You can find out what is going on on-campus by visiting the
Spirit Zone, opening your UAlbany e-mail weekly
e-newsletter from the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, or visiting the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, Campus Center 130. You can also contact Michael Jaromin, Director of Student Involvement and Leadership via e-mail (
mjaromin@uamail.albany.edu) or by phone at (518) 442-5566.
What do I do if I want to join a group?
There are over
250 student organizations on campus and we recommend that you attend their events or meetings, visit their websites if they have one, or contact Student Involvement and Leadership (
involvement@uamail.albany.edu or (518) 442-5566). Group contact information is available in the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, Campus Center 130. You can also come in contact with groups at the group fair held each semester, by visiting their Campus Center lobby tables or stopping by your student government offices (
Student Association) in Campus Center 116. Joining the group is usually as easy as committing to attend their meetings and events. Groups are always looking for new members and will be excited to speak with you.
What do I do if I want to start a new group?
We first recommend you check to make sure there is not already
a group with a similar mission or function as the group you are interested in starting. If there is, please contact the leadership of the group to discuss your interest in getting involved. Group contact information is available in the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, Campus Center 130,
involvement@uamail.albany.edu, or (518) 442-5566. They are always looking for motivated individuals and new ideas. New undergraduate groups are recognized by the undergraduate
Student Association and the procedures for starting a new group can be obtained in the Student Association Office in Campus Center 116. Or you can obtain information by contacting Student Involvement and Leadership (
involvement@uamail.albany.edu or (518) 442-5566) in Campus Center 130. New graduate groups are recognized by the
Graduate Student Organization and the procedures for starting a new group can be found
online. Or you can contact the Graduate Student Organization directly at (518) 442-4178.
