Emergency Preparedness: What's Your Competency

Kristine Gebbie, DrPH, RN, FAAN, of the School of Nursing Center for Health Policy and Mailman School of Public Health Center for Public Health Preparedness, Columbia University

Program Description:
The events of September 11, 2001 and the multi-city anthrax infections, deaths, and investigations have made evident the need for strong public health emergency preparedness. Emergency preparedness requires new competencies of public health professionals. In this program Kristine Gebbie, reviewed core competencies in emergency preparedness and their application in multiple emergencies.

Objectives:
As a result of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Define emergency preparedness.
  • Describe core competencies in public health.
