Keys
When you are first hired as a full-time faculty member, you are issued one key to your office. You also are given a key to the Reading Department office (ED333). University security is tight on keys, as you are about to find out...
How to obtain your keys:
1. Ask Linda Papa to fill out a work order for you.
2. You, and you alone, with a valid SUNY-ID and a work-order number, pick up your keys at Customer Service, located in the tunnel at the Social Science Loading Dock (SS-B12). Their hours are 8-12 and 12:30-3.
3. If you change offices, or leave the University, you must return your keys to Customer Service, and ask for a receipt. Ask Linda Papa to make a copy of this receipt for department records.
By the way, you can't make copies of your keys. They are specially designed not to be copied.
Department Policies related to keys:
1. The Department secretaries will only let a student into your office if you personally have approved it (by phone, email, in person). No matter how much a student protests that it's OK, the permission has to come from you.
2. If you need to have a graduate assistant working in your office on a regular basis, then all you need to do is ask Linda Papa for one. She will prepare a work order, and notify the assistant when the key is ready. However, the faculty member is responsible for the security of his/her office.
3. If you leave your key at home, ask Linda or Mary to let you into your office with one of the office keys. For security reasons, the Department keys are not loaned.
Some offices and meeting rooms are controlled by key-pads. There are multiple codes for these rooms, and you can obtain a code from the person in charge of that room:
ED337 Reading Graduate Student Office: ask Linda Papa for a code.
Linda also has the department codes for SOE meeting rooms (ED127, ED335, ED346).
It is important that all offices and meeting rooms be locked while empty. Thefts from offices are not uncommon, and frequently occur when you've stepped out for just a minute. Please get into the habit of closing and locking your office whenever you leave it.
Use the menu to the left to navigate to each topic. Not all links are activated, however, and during the construction phase of this handbook, there may be significant changes in both menus and content.
I welcome your feedback! (email Sean Walmsley seanwalmsley@mac.com with "Faculty Handbook" in the Subject Heading)
