After graduation, want to take more courses?

We get many requests from our MS graduates (as well as from other universities), who want to return to take courses. Here's the scoop...

If you graduated from our MS in Reading, Classroom Track, and are looking to get certified as a Literacy Specialist

First, you have to find out which specific courses NY State Education Dept requires you to take. The best way to learn about this is to contact a BOCES certification specialist. If you live in the Albany area, call Joy Moch, certification specialist at the Albany BOCES (456-1347); or, if you live in Saratoga County and north, contact Karol Masher at 746-3370. or email her at kmasher@mum.neric.org  We cannot do this for you, you have to come to us already knowing which courses you need to take in order to meet State Ed's requirements. However, bear in mind that our capstone practicum courses (especially ERDG620) have very limited enrollment, and returning students have to compete with matriculated students already in the specialist programs for the few available seats. Applying very early, and being patient until your "turn" arrives, is essential. By the way, no capstone practicum courses are offered online, only on campus (well, close to campus--at Arbor Hill Elementary School in Albany, NY).

If you really aren't interested in obtaining additional specialist certifications, but just want to take courses:

All you have to do is to apply non-degree. It's pretty simple and can be done at any time of the year. Obtaining seats in Reading courses is generally not that difficult, except in the core practicum courses (several of which have prerequisites). However, applying early is highly recommended--all of our courses fill as the start of a semester draws near.

What about online courses?

Our matriculated online students use almost all the seats available in our online courses, but occasionally seats become available. You can take online courses as a non-degree student, but you'll have to wait until we 'release' online seats for general registration (however, even after we release seats, you'll have to email Trudy Walp (trudy@chestercreekpress.com) for a CPN#, which is required for access to all online courses).
