Childhood Ed Notes

What has remained the same in the Childhood Ed Literacy program?

--the program still requires 30 credit hours to complete.

--the program course requirements remain the same, whether the program is taken online or on campus.

What has changed in the revised Childhood Ed Literacy program?

--there are two course distribution requirements in the revised program plan:  Content/Pedagogy Core (24 credit hours) and Electives (6 credit hours);

--the Ed Foundations Core requirement has been eliminated.  Some of those courses are now required as Content/Pedagogy Core (e.g., ERDG 600, ERDG 610, ERDG 615) while others have become Electives.

--ERDG 638 is no longer a required course but is available as an Elective.

--ERDG 618 is no longer a required course. In fact, it is no longer being offered and has been replaced by ETAP 612 and ETAP 614. Both ETAP 612 and ETAP 614 are required as Content/Pedagogy Core courses.

Which Childhood Ed Literacy program plan should I follow?

--students entering the Childhood Ed program (online or on campus) from Spring 2006 onwards must follow the revised program plan.

--if you have completed ERDG 618 then you should consider completing your degree under the old program plan.

--if you have not taken ERDG 618 then you should switch to the new program plan. However, please be sure to carefully consider the course work you have completed to date. Check with your advisor, so that in shifting to the revised program plan you don't inadvertently end up needing 33 credit hours to complete your program.
