ONLINE
MS PROGRAMS IN READING
Since
Fall, 2004, the Department has offered an MS
in Childhood Education (Literacy), in a part-time online
format through the SUNY Learning Network.
The
Reading Department also offers, but only for students
already in the program, an MS
(Reading): Classroom Teacher Track Online, in
a part-time online format through the SUNY Learning
Network. This program will continue for students already
enrolled in it. but no new students have been accepted
into this program starting in Spring, 2005. Students
already enrolled in the Classroom Track will be able
to complete their programs online (within the required
5 years beyond their provisional certification). For
details of the Childhood Education online program, click

Online
graduate study offers students the same top quality
faculty and coursework at a flexible pace and convenient
format. Because the program is identical to our on-campus
programs, this online program is an appropriate degree
for professional certification in grades 1-6 [MS Childhood
Education (Literacy)], or permanent certification in
your current teaching area (MS Reading).
Online
graduate study at the University at Albany is a rigorous
endeavor requiring at least 12-15 hours of study and
preparation per week for each 3-credit course. Courses
are offered online during the fall, spring, and summer
semesters. Because this is a part-time program, it
takes at least two years (6 semesters) of study to
complete the online M.S. You may also study at a slower
pace. For example, by taking one class every semester
you would finish the program in just over three years.
Most
students generally take one or two courses per semester.
If you want to take three courses, you must have special
permission and will be placed on a waiting list for
the third course, pending course availability. If you
are interested in taking a full-time load, you should
apply to an on-campus program.
Application
and admissions to our online programs are identical
to our on campus programs. Click

Do
you have to live a certain distance away from campus in order to study online? Actually,
no. We don't set any conditions for this, and don't take this into consideration
when we review applications. However, since competition for the limited seats
in our online program is intense, it is possible that you could be denied
admission to the online program, but offered admission to on campus. In this
case, how far you lived from campus might be a deciding factor in whether
you took us up on the offer. |
