CAN A PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATE BE CONVERTED TO AN INITIAL?

Yes, it can. You can apply directly to the New York State Education Department; it may require specific additional courses to be taken.

ARE THERE WAYS TO CONVERT ONE CERTIFICATION TO ANOTHER?

Yes, it's called a transcript review. For example, if you completed our MS in Literacy (Literacy Specialist B-6), and later wished to obtain B-12 certification, you could take additional coursework (e.g., ERDG505 and ERDG623) and submit these to State Ed for a transcript review, which, if approved, would lead to B-12 certification.
