Model, teach and have children practice strategies for developing effective language and style in their writing.

Provide regular opportunities for children to develop effective language/style in their own writing.

  • Provide regular opportunities for children to develop effective language/style in their own writing.
 
  • Provide regular opportunities for children to write about topics which are interesting and important to them.
  • Share children's writing with an emphasis on language and style (e.g., comment on word choice, explore alternatives)

  • When responding to children's writing, include comments and suggestions on language and style
  • Maintain a portfolio (hard copy/electronic) and have children reflect on growth in language/style.
 
  • Provide regular opportunities for children to write about topics which are interesting and important to them.
  • Have children share their writing (e.g., author's chair, small group, with partner), with an emphasis on language and style (e.g., comment on word choice, explore alternatives)
