Model, teach and have children practice strategies for developing effective language and style in their writing.

Provide regular opportunities for children to develop effective language/style in their own writing.

  • Model, teach and have children practice strategies for developing effective language and style in their writing.
 
  • Celebrate and value effective language and style in the books used for shared reading, and in children's own writing (e.g., figurative language, interesting and expressive language, rhymes, patterns, etc.)
  • Surround children with examples of published writng that demonstrates effective language and style, and personal voice (e.g., poems, excerpts from books, magazines, etc.)
  • Model for children adult writing, explaining the choice of words, phrases and sentences as they are written (e.g., the cat's "paw" rather than the cat's "foot.")
 
  • Celebrate and value effective language and style in the books used for shared reading, and in children's own writing (e.g., figurative language, interesting and expressive language, rhymes, patterns, etc.)
  • Surround children with examples of published writng that demonstrates effective language and style, and personal voice (e.g., poems, excerpts from literature, magazines, newspapers, etc.)
  • Model for children adult writing, explaining the choice of words, phrases and sentences as they are written.
  • Teach and have children practice strategies for developing effective language and style (e.g., borrowing from authentic materials, learning about metaphors and similes)
