Uses Appropriate Mechanics in Writing

 

Model, teach and have children practice appropriate mechanics, primarily in the context of authentic writing.

Provide regular opportunities for children to apply their knowledge of writing mechanics in their own work.

  • Model, teach, and have children practice appropriate mechanics, primarily in the context of authentic writing
 
  • Provide examples of appropriate mechanics in adult writing (e.g., point out capitalization, punctuation, letters, simple spelling patterns, etc., in books and other written materials)
  • Model for children appropriate writing mechanics (e.g., in correspondence, descriptions, daily message, etc.)

 

  • Provide opportunities for children to practice writing mechanics while writing lists, descriptions, etc
 
  • Provide examples of appropriate mechanics in adult writing (e.g., point out capitalization, punctuation, letters, simple spelling patterns, etc., in books and other written materials)
  • Model for children appropriate writing mechanics (e.g., spelling patterns, letter formation, etc.)

     

  • Provide opportunities for children to correct simple errors in punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and grammar in adult writing

     
  • Provide examples of appropriate mechanics in adult writing (e.g., point out capitalization, punctuation, letters, simple spelling patterns, etc., in books and other written materials)
  • Model for children the proof-reading process in adult writing (e.g., demonstrate use of dictionaries, checklists, spell-checkers)

     

  • Provide opportunities for children to correct simple errors in punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and grammar in adult writing
