  • select fiction and non-fiction books, poetry and other materials (e.g., newspapers, magazines) for read alouds and shared reading
  • when teaching a theme, match fiction and nonfiction books and poetry on the same topic (e.g., An Octopus Followed Me Home, Lear's poem on octopus, Scholastic book on octopi)
  • select fiction and non-fiction books, poetry and other materials (e.g., newspapers, magazines, primary source documents, internet) for read alouds and shared reading
