Individual Psychotherapy

What is individual psychotherapy?

We offer short-term and longer-term individual psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults, as well as couples counseling and family therapy. Services are based on each client’s needs.

Our doctoral students and their licensed supervisors approach therapy with a diverse range of techniques, from cognitive-behavioral to psychodynamic.

To schedule an appointment, please call 518-442-4900.

What can I expect as a prospective client?

Step 1: Brief Telephone Interview

You’ll first speak with one of our therapists for a brief telephone interview (20 to 45 minutes). This conversation will help us develop a good understanding of your concerns and make an informed decision on the best treatment options for you.

Step 2: Scheduling or Referral

The Center reserves the right to determine whether the services we offer we are appropriate for potential client. If we determine we cannot appropriately meet your needs, we will attempt to help you find more appropriate treatment resources.

If we determine our psychotherapy services would be appropriate for you, you'll be added to our wait list and one of our therapists will call you to schedule your first therapy appointment.

We appreciate your patience as we work our way through our waiting list. Please feel free to contact the Center for an update on the wait list.

Step 3: First Appointment

Your therapist will use your first appointment to get to know you and understand your concerns. You’ll also discuss possible treatment options, the confidential nature of our services and complete required forms.

Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you’re unable to attend, please call the clinic at 518-442-4900 at least 24 hours before your appointment.

What do psychotherapy services cost?

Psychotherapy costs $10 to $45 per 45-minute session.

We strive to set fees that won’t burden our clients. Our sliding fee scale is based on the individual’s income, number of dependents and ability to pay.

The Center does not accept health insurance, Medicaid or other third-party payments. Insurance companies may reimburse clients for our services, but they are not required to do so under New York State law.
