ALBANY, N.Y. (November 10, 2005) -- University at Albany President Kermit L. Hall today announced the appointment of Teresa M. Harrison as the University's NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. Harrison, the chair of the Department of Communication, will serve as an internal consultant to the Department of Athletics, reviewing and providing oversight of the intercollegiate athletics program and its compliance with NCAA guidelines, and will chair the University's Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Board (IAAB), the primary body for affording campus groups input into athletics policy formulation.

"The University at Albany Division One program is at a turning point, and we need to have strong faculty involvement as it evolves. I am delighted that Teri Harrison has agreed to serve. She brings strong academic values, a record of first-rate leadership in the University, and a history of being able to forge consensus among different groups," said President Hall.

"Dr. Harrison brings broad background and a comprehensive commitment to the undergraduate experience that will facilitate a successful academic and athletic environment for student athletes," said Lee McElroy, vice president for athletic administration and director of intercollegiate athletics.

"I am pleased to serve as the Faculty Athletics Representative," Harrison said, "and I look forward to joining President Hall, Lee McElroy, and the university community to set priorities and move the program from its past successes to the next level of excellence and recognition."

Harrison joined the University in 2001 as chair of the Communication Department. She received her doctorate from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and previously served as associate dean of humanities and social sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

The University at Albany is the recipient of the 2004-2005 America East Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup, awarded to the strongest overall athletic program in the conference.
