ALBANY, N.Y. (May 28, 2003) -- Kathryn K. Lowery has been appointed vice president for finance and business at the University at Albany; the chief financial officer for the campus. She was previously associate vice president for financial management and budget at UAlbany and has served as interim vice president since April 2002.

As associate vice president for financial management and budget, Lowery was the key management officer of the University's budget.

Lowery, a 1997 Chancellor's Excellence Award Winner in Professional Service, joined the University in 1978 after a short engagement in the world of corporate investment. After four years of service in the Computing Center, she joined the Office of Financial Management and Budget. In the mid-1990s, she became an essential part of the campus financial planning, modeling and forecasting budget scenarios.

Established in 1844 and designated a center of the State University of New York in 1962, the University at Albany's broad mission of excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service engages 17,000 diverse students in eight degree-granting schools and colleges. The University is engaged in a $500 million fundraising campaign, the most ambitious in its history, with the goal of placing it among the nation's top 30 public research universities by the end of the decade.
