FAQ

Why do we need a Website Graphic Standards Manual?

The web is the primary resource for students and others seeking information about the University at Albany. Web page standards and templates have been created to present the University's identity clearly and to provide visitors a consistent navigation system across all UAlbany websites.

Although the templates contain required elements to ensure a consistent identity and navigation, they serve primarily as a structure for each unit to customize with content and images that will express its unique qualities and strengths.

How do I obtain the web templates?

You can obtain the web templates by completing the Web Template Request Form found on this site. Once the request has been approved you will receive instructions on how to download the templates, associated files and documentation.

How do I maintain the link and image references from the web templates in my site?

Once the web templates have been downloaded and your site has been defined, open the appropriate template in your web design software and select "File", "Save As", then save and rename the file to the proper directory. The software should automatically update the link and image references.

How do I get help with implementing my site?

UAlbany's Creative Services department offers graphic design services for publishing to the web as well as printed publications. Contact Fred Doyle at fdoyle@uamail.albany.edu or (518) 442-3674.

What colors can I use?

There are standard colors built into the web template based on University at Albany school colors of purple and gold. These colors are used most prominently in the background and navigation areas to convey a consistent University image. The acceptable colors are also built into the cascading style sheet and indicate regular text (black), linked text (dark red), and visited linked text (dark blue). In addition, a color palette of complimentary colors is available and displayed in the documentation's color chart. This chart represents a good range of colors that should work well with the embedded school colors.

How do I obtain approved photos for my site?

To obtain approved photos for your site, please visit the UAlbany Image Archive.

Can I use a photo in the top right logo banner area of my page?

Photos in the top right logo banner area may only be used on pages that are linked directly from the UAlbany home page global navigation.

What fonts are used in the web templates?

UAlbany uses the Verdana font in the left Navigation and body text (main and secondary content areas) and the Times New Roman font in the page title area of the web templates. These fonts are built into the cascading style sheet and should be applied to all text.
