Utilization of Criminal Justice Statistics

Since 1973, the Utilization Project has produced the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics, a standard reference serving many users, including researchers, planners, practitioners, students, librarians, and the media. The Sourcebook was published annually as a printed volume for over 30 years and in the mid-1990s became available on the internet as well. Today, as an internet-only product, Sourcebook Online presents over 1,000 data tables from over 100 sources on all aspects of the criminal justice system. The information is organized into six topical sections: criminal justice system characteristics; public opinion toward criminal justice topics; crime and victims; arrests and seizures; courts, prosecution and sentencing; prisons, jails, community supervision, and the death penalty.

The Sourcebook Online web site is updated regularly as new statistics become available. Often the most current data are presented along with earlier data in companion tables or trend tables facilitating over-time comparisons.
