Incarceration and Life Outcomes

Robert J. Apel
Project Director

Dr. Apel's current National Institute of Justice project entitled "The Effect of Criminal Justice Involvement in the Transition to Adulthood" is a one-year grant to assess the causal effect, if any, of first-time criminal justice involvement--arrest, charging, prosecution, conviction, incarceration--on subsequent employment and education. The data set to be used is the public-use National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 (NLSY97), sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and collected in accordance with federal regulations stipulated in 28 CFR 22.
