The Purple Path
Overview
The Fall 2005 Masters of Urban and Regional Planning Studio in association with University
Officials, developed a proposal for the Purple Path. The plan was widely embraced by the campus
and an initial section was designed and constructed in 2007 at the Western Ave campus entrance.
The Office of Campus Planning has further studied and developed a design concept for a phased
implementation of the entire path documented in the Pedestrian and Traffic Improvement Study by
Delta Engineering. The proposed Path will be a multi-use 5k loop around the campus on the inner
perimeter of University Drive. The new path will offer students, faculty, staff and the
surrounding community a great place to run, walk & bike in a scenic and educational environment.
The Path will also provide needed connections to local neighborhoods and retail establishments
as well as regional transportation networks.
