Albany Corridor Study

Overview

The University at Albany and the City of Albany propose to work as an equal partner in a Corridor Visioning Study for the area between the Downtown Campus and Alumni Quad. The boundaries of the study include Washington Avenue west to Partridge Street to south Western Avenue to east Robin Street. The Study will assess the existing land use patterns along Washington and Western Avenues while incorporating form based zoning practices as appropriate; incorporating street beautification and complete street principles; focusing on safety, walkability, and street calming; and strengthening the identity of the area including consideration of creating a “University District’ as well as a arrival enhancements in and around the UAlbany Downtown campus. The Study will be an integrated subcomponent to the overall ReZone Albany initiative and Form Based Code Studies; should confirm or expand on visions set forth in previous studies; should include more extensive visualization of the projects; be more specific in project implementation strategies, and should provide more detailed, constructible, and actionable initiatives. The project will be several phases that will include project initiation, public outreach, parking study, and drafting the corridor recommendations.
