Campus Center Master Plan
Overview
The existing Campus Center and Campus Center Extension buildings enjoys a prominent location on
the University at Albany campus. It is visually and functionally a central anchor of the
Academic Podium, that serves as a crossroads that link various campus activities and amenities.
These building themselves contain many necessary program elements in relative convenience to
campus visitors, staff and students alike. Such amenities include various food venues, lounges,
conference facilities, bookstore, various student services and student organization offices.
The 2009 Campus Center Master Plan by WTW Architects lays out a multi-year $75M plan for the
complete renovation and rehabilitation of the approximately 235,000 GSF existing Campus Center
and Campus Center Extension buildings to meet current and future needs. The report recommended
significant renovations to transform the existing facility into a dynamic new center for student
life.
The first phase of this work to expand and create a more open, welcoming and functional main
entrance lobby was recently completed. Design is also underway on the second phase to provide
enhanced student programs, including a new approximately 50,000 SF expansion with a new wellness
center, a multipurpose auditorium and an enclosed Learning Garden atrium. This phase also
includes site improvements such as enhanced landscaping, walkways, and parking areas to compliment
and reinforce the objectives of the overall campus master plan.
