Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex

The University at Albany’s Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex (E-TEC) is designed to be a state-of-the-art research and development (R&D) hub for emerging technologies and entrepreneurial leadership.

E-TEC will bring together academic research centers with industry partners to accelerate cooperative R&D, technology transfer, business development and workforce training. By advancing and commercializing cutting-edge innovative research, E-TEC will bolster the economy of New York’s Capital Region and increase academic opportunities for UAlbany students.

Governor Cuomo and SUNY Chancellor ZimpherLeveraging a $35 million grant from New York state under Governor Cuomo’s NY2020 initiative, the 225,000-square-foot center will be located on the east side of the Uptown campus near Life Sciences.

Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex will house expanded academic research and commercialization programs in:

  • Atmosphere and Environmental Sciences
  • Biomedical and biotechnology studies
  • Forensic science
  • Cyber security and advanced data and analytics

E-TEC will also fuel University growth by adding 187 new faculty, 355 research posts and 193 campus support jobs. In addition, 700 courses will be added to the University’s offerings.

UAlbany will add $5.2 million in tuition assistance money to recruit and retain quality students, ultimately increasing enrollment to 20,000 students.
