Meet a few of our students! Below are profiles of a select number of students in the EAPS graduate programs.

Paulina Berriospaulina

A native of Chile, Paulina is pursuing a doctorate in Educational Administration and Policy Studies. She is the recipient of several awards and Fellowships including the Chilean Council for Higher Education award, the School of Education’s Harbison Fellowship, awarded to graduate students of outstanding promise, and the Fellowship for Women and Public Policy from Rockefeller College.

Paulina Berrios is currently researching issues related to university part-time faculty, the hiring and managing of part-time faculty and its impact upon universities. Her research is focused on Chile but has a comparative approach with U.S. and Latin America. Before initiating her studies, Paulina researched and taught Gender, and advised the Chilean government on several projects related to women and education.

Jill Crombie-Borgosjill

Jill is currently a doctoral student at the University at Albany, State University of New York in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy Studies with a concentration in Higher Education. Jill holds a B.S.N. degree from Boston College and a M.S. in Nursing Administration and Patient Care Services from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her research interests include student persistence and the pathways into higher education for individuals seeking degrees in the health professions. Prior to enrolling at UAlbany, Jill worked as an Administrative Supervisor and Patient Care Coordinator in the community hospital setting. She has also held clinical positions at Children's Hospital Boston, Johns Hopkins University, Duke University and the University of Michigan Medical Centers. In addition Jill is a member of the New York State School Boards Association and Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.

Francesca Durandfrancesca

Francesca is a doctoral candidate who received her MS from EAPS and her BS in Economics from Binghamton University. She works for Dr. Pamela Théroux on two longitudinal research studies; an NSF sponsored study of interdisciplinary doctoral education and a study of an innovative collaboration between higher education and high school math and science classes; co-authoring conference papers surrounding this research. Her dissertation research examines P-16 state level policies from advocacy to development and she has authored two conference papers on P-16 policy. In 2010, she was honored with the Arvid J Burke School of Education Scholarship.

Tom Enderleintom

Tom Enderlein is a second-year doctoral student in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy Studies (EAPS) at the University at Albany. His Bachelor of Arts degree was earned at Franklin & Marshall College where he majored in Philosophy. Tom has two Master’s degrees: an M.A. in Philosophy and an M.S. in Organizational Leadership in Higher Education. Prior to entering the program at Albany, Tom was a staff assistant to the Dean of Students at Shippensburg University.His research interests include evaluating educational programs at the graduate and professional levels and examining the influences that Federal financial aid programs have on student enrollment in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. Tom serves as the Webmaster for the C-BERT and CIES websites.

Christine Farrugiachristine

Christine is a doctoral student in Educational Administration and Policy Studies and a member of the Cross-Border Research Team (C-BERT). Her research interests center on why and how campuses internationalize and how they forge successful international ventures. She is currently researching quality assurance policy in cross-border higher education. Prior to joining EAPS, Christine worked in academic and student affairs at Columbia University and Tufts University. She holds a B.A. from Hunter College, CUNY and Ed.M. and M.A. degrees in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. In 2010, Christine was selected as a recipient of the ASHE Graduate Travel Scholarship.

Dan Knoxdan

Dan Knox is a doctoral student in EAPS and member of the Cross-Border Education Research Team (C-BERT). Prior to entering the program, Dan taught 8th grade English language arts in New York City as a member of Teach for America, and Earth Science at the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School, a residential treatment center in Chicago. He holds a BA in English Language & Literature from the University of Chicago, and an M.S. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from the University at Albany. As a member of CBERT, Dan studies issues of higher education accountability and cross-border regulation. In addition, he is currently engaged in a study of the impacts of electronic monitoring in online learning environments.

Joanna Musial-Demuratjoanna

Joanna Musial-Demurat is a doctoral candidate and a Doctoral Research Associate at PROPHE. She received her M.S. in Educational Administration from University at Albany and Graduate Certification in Institutional Research from Pennsylvania State University.
Her dissertation topic is inter-sectoral and intra-sectoral institutional differentiation of Polish private and public higher education. She received the Ford Foundation Quantitative Methodology of Higher Education Research Grant from the Columbia University. Musial-Demurat was a fellow for the 2009 Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Fellowship Program in Institutional Research. Her professional aspirations focus now on a career in Institutional Research.

David Phillipsdavep

David Phillips is a second-year doctoral student in the Educational Administration and Policy Studies (EAPS) program at the University at Albany. Before entering EAPS, David performed stand-up comedy and was a Resident Director at Buffalo State College. He holds a B.A. in History from Purchase College and a M.S. in Student Personnel Administration from Buffalo State College. David is currently a member of the Cross-Border Education Research Team (C-BERT), studying educational hubs and their effect on institutional and governmental public policy. His research interests focus on transnational education, access and social mobility, and issues of public diplomacy.

Treisy Romerotreisy

Treisy Romero is a first year doctoral student in the Educational Administration and Policy Studies Department at the University at Albany. She holds a B.A. in Mathematics Education from the University of Colima in Mexico, and she recently obtained her M.S. degree in Educational Administration from the University at Albany on a Fulbright Scholarship. As an international student at the University at Albany, her interests in comparative education focus on mathematics learning and the intended mathematics curriculum in primary and secondary education, as well as in intercultural education and opportunities for indigenous populations. Prior to enrolling at the University at Albany, Treisy taught in secondary and higher education and worked in academic, accreditation, and administrative affairs in her alma mater. She was previously involved in the coordination of government programs to provide growth opportunities for young people in her state.

Ruirui Sunruirui

Ruirui Sun became a doctoral student in the department of EAPS in August, 2010, to continue her research interests in economic analysis and policy studies of post-secondary education and lifelong learning. With great enthusiasm, she is now working with Dr. Alan Wagner, carrying out research on economic incentives for lifelong learning in the U.S. and other countries.

She received her M.A. in Economics of Education from Peking University and B.A. in International Economics from Nanjing University of Science and Technology. During those years of studies, she participated actively in research programs, presented in conferences, published papers, and worked as a student administrator.

Marcellus Taylormarcellus

Marcellus Taylor is a doctoral student in Educational Administration and Policy Studies University at Albany. Prior to joining EAPS, he worked in public schools and the Ministry of Education in The Bahamas. Additionally, he holds a B.A. in History from Florida International University, a M.Ed. in Education and Development from the University at Bristol and a M.A. degree in Education Planning and Management from the International Institute for Educational Planning. His research interests focus on public participation, accountability and decision-making in education as well as national and regional school exit examinations in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Linda Tsevilinda

Linda Tsevi is a PhD student in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy Studies at SUNY-Albany. She earned her B.A. in English and Religions and an M.Phil in Adult Education from University of Ghana. Linda also earned a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas, Lawrence while on Fulbright Scholarship. She is from Ghana and had previously worked in administration at tertiary institutions in her home country. Linda is part of the C-BERT team and researches cross-border education, accreditation and quality assurance issues in higher education. Her other research interest is governance in higher education institutions.

Lina Uribelina

Lina Uribe is a doctoral candidate, Fulbright grantee, and Doctoral Research Associate at PROPHE. She received her MS in University Administration at the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. Uribe has been a university rector and professor, consultant, and peer reviewer for the Colombian Ministry of Education assessing quality conditions in higher education institutions. Her research interests are on public policy, private higher education, quality assurance, and 2-year education. She has published a book on the relevance of college education in regional contexts and has presented research papers at international conferences in Colombia, Cuba and Canada. Her dissertation concentrates on public policy on access to Colombian higher education.
