Obtaining the Bibliographic Information System from the University of Colorado by FTP

During the past 20 years the Center for Research on Judgment and Policy (CRJP) at the University of Colorado has accumulated a database of citations to the scientific literature on judgment and decision making. The database was started by Kenneth Hammond and has been maintained by members of the Center. It is not exhaustive, but it includes most of the major papers relevant to psychological approaches to the field of study. The database, which is updated about every 3 months, can be obtained via Internet file transfer. Use of the database requires a software package called EndNote which is available for Windows and Macintosh computers from Niles & Associates. (A text version of the database is also available.)

The file has been compacted or zipped. Therefore, after you have moved it to your computer, you will need to "unzip" or "extract" it in order to access it. The file contains over 10,000 references and will occupy approximately 4500K on your disk after it is decompressed.

Click to obtain BIS.sea.bin (Mac file, approximately 1700K)

Click to obtain BIS.gzip (zipped PC file, approximately 1500K)

Click to obtain BIS.lib_Export.text (uncompressed text file, approximately 3300K)

Hint:  If your browser tries to display these files in a window instead of saving them, use the following procedure:  Clicking on the link above using the RIGHT mouse button.  A dialog box will come up.  Then click "Save link as..."  The "Save as" dialog box will then appear, allowing you to specify a directory for saving the file. (This procedure works for Netscape.  Other browsers may differ.)

OR, follow the instructions below to transfer the database source file to your Apple or PC.

ftp to psych.colorado.edu
(User ID = "anonymous"; password = anything)
The pub/crjp directory contains three files:
          BIS.sea.bin (Macbinary self-extracting archive)
          BIS.gzip (gzip-encoded binary file)
BIS.lib_Export.text (a text version that does not require EndNote)

Remember to type "binary" before getting the file you want.
If you are using a Macintosh, transfer the "BIS.sea.bin" file to your computer, double click on the "BIS.sea.bin" icon, select destination file, and click on "extract." (When the "BIS.lib" file has been extracted, "BIS.sea.bin" can be deleted.)

If you are using an IBM (or compatible) PC the "BIS.gzip" file has to be decompressed using a program such as WINZIP..

If you have installed the EndNote application on your computer, the bibliography will now be ready to use.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INTENDED AS A REFERENCE TOOL ONLY. COPIES OF THE ITEMS IN THE LIBRARY ARE NOT AVAILABLE FROM CRJP.
