Understanding Barriers to Obtaining Food Stamps

This study was a collaborative effort between CHSR researchers and the Nutrition Consortium of New York State (now Hunger Solutions New York). Through its Nutrition Outreach and Education Program, the Nutrition Consortium works to expand participation in the Food Stamps Program (FSP) and channels state funding for FSP outreach efforts to local community-based organizations throughout the state.

Evaluation & Research

The Nutrition Consortium of New York received funding from the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation to analyze existing data. Staff at the Nutrition Consortium and CHSR researchers worked together to develop a plan for analyzing data from quarterly and annual reports compiled by community based organizations from 2004 to 2008. Qualitative and quantitative data from the reports were analyzed, and the findings were presented to the Nutrition Consortium and stakeholders at the New York State Office of Temporary Disability Assistance.
