CHSR releases report on school readiness in Chemung county
This report presents findings from the longitudinal evaluation of the Chemung County School Readiness Project (SRP). Using a study-designed composite measure of school readiness, children entering kindergarten in Chemung were assessed in 2007 before SRP programs and services were initiated. Measures were repeated with children entering kindergarten in 2011, and data were analyzed to examine differences between the two cohorts. Results show that the percentage of students who were school ready at kindergarten entrance rose by 21%, nearly cutting in half the number of children considered unready for school in Chemung. Significant improvement was found across all three of the county’s school districts.
