Molecular Genetics
I received my PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Tulane University Medical Center doing research in the lab of Dr. Robert F. Garry Garry Lab . I was trained as a Viral Immunologist and studied viral-host interactions focusing on the role of cellular RNA-binding proteins in viral replication. We did a lot of research on viral links to autoimmunity and autoimmune diseases such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis remain still interested in autoimmunity today. Some of our work resulted in the development of a patented diagnostic for fibromyalgia that is licensed by Autoimmune Technologies Autoimmune Technologies a biotechnology company in New Orleans, LA. I remained at Tulane an additional two years after being awarded a Hemophilia Foundation Judith Graham Pool Postdoctoral Fellowship. During this time I studied natural resistance to HIV infection in severe hemophiliacs.
Following this I went to work as a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow with Dr. Jack D. Keene at Duke University Medical Center Keene Lab . There I studied RNA-binding proteins eventually developing, along with Craig Carson and Pat Lager, the basic methods for ribonomic profiling, a technology designed for the genomic-scale identification of RNA targets of RNA-binding proteins. This technology is licensed by Ribonomics ribonomics a biotechnology start-up company located in the Research Triangle in North Carolina. I joined the UAlbany Faculty in 2003 at the Ge*NY*Sis Center for Excellence in Cancer Genomics and am continuing to expand ribonomic profiling approaches to be used as a method for the genomic-scale identification of RNA-binding protein regulatory elements. I have a reasonably large very eclectic lab that is divided into a Molecular Biology arm and a Bioinformatic group that work closely together on this project which has been funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute ENCODE project ENCODE. There are several active projects being studied in my lab, only some of which are described in the research interests section of this website. I am always keeping an eye out for exceptionally bright, motivated individuals who are interested in working with me. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you are interested.
I have been married to my beautiful wife, Diane since 1992. We have three wonderful boys Max, Zach and Sam who are 10, 7 and 2 respectively. When I am not working or thinking about science or spending time with my family, I am usually out getting my but kicked in Ice Hockey but insist that I still have a future in the NHL.

Scott A. Tenenbaum - Curriculum Vitae

Frank Doyle
Computer Engineering and Bioinformatics
I started working in the Tenenbaum lab in November 2004. I originally moved to the area to pursue courses in nanoscience at SUNY Albany. After 1 1/2 semesters I realized that, while I was interested in the technology, I wasn't passionate about it, and chose to investigate other opportunities. I have a Masters degree in Computer Science, a Bachelors in Communication, and a number of years of professional experience ranging from computer operational support, to software engineering. I have programmed professionally in IBM mainframe assembly language, Visual Basic, and Java implementing demographics systems and device drivers. While somewhat challenging, these projects were not personally interesting to me. However, I have always had a deep interest in Biology and was introduced to Scott though Chris Zaleski. Suddenly, I found myself able to apply my prior experience as a software engineer to the groundbreaking work he is doing here at the CFG. I look forward to assisting Scott in what is sure to be some amazing research.

Alix Faguet
Molecular Biology / Biochemistry
Graduated from SUNY at Albany in May'07, in Molecular Bio/ Biochemistry. Hesistant as to my next step, I decided to seek lab experience and found an opportunity at CFG in Dr. Tine's Molecular Biology Core Facility. I then joined Dr. Tenenbaum's team in January '08 and am greatly enjoying working on the diverse projects!

Ritu Jain
Biotechnology
I have been working in the Tenenbaum lab since December, 2007. I grew up in India where I received a degree of M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru University at New Delhi. I came to the land of opportunities as a starry-eyed graduate student in 1992 and worked on getting a Ph.D. from University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. After graduating I took a break from science to work on two ‘projects’ who are now 9 and 6 years old. I worked briefly as a Research Associate at Wadsworth Center, and at Cytopia Inc, both located in Albany, NY. I have always been interested in the translational control of gene expression and I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Tenenbaum lab. This is a unique opportunity for me, where I can use my existing skills, acquire new and cutting edge technical skills and think creatively. Since there are many projects in our lab there is always something interesting going on. I am sure that one day, the experience in Tenenbaum lab will help me in achieving my American dream.

Chris Zaleski
Computer Engineering and Bioinformatics
I've been working in the Tenenbaum lab since November 2003. I had previously obtained a degree in Computer Science and spent about 8 years in IT. However, I had always been interested in natural sciences, and became very excited about the recent advances in BioTech and Bioinformatics. I decided to pursue a Biology degree in the hopes that I can combine that knowledge with my degree and experience in IT. I moved to the Capital Region in order to study Biology at SUNY Albany, and completed a second Bachelor's degree in 2005. My goal is to have a career in scientific programming & bioinformatics.
I was very lucky to meet Professor Tenenbaum and be offered a position in his lab. It's an ideal place to learn biology, apply my existing skills, and discover new ways to combine them.
