The University at Albany is a wise choice for
students interested in pre-law. Being accepted into
law school is a competitive process, and a UAlbany
undergraduate education will help prepare future
lawyers. Our location in the state’s capital affords
students the unique opportunity to intern at the
Senate and Assembly, to work in local law offices as
part of the Community and Public Service Program, and
to benefit from the many law-related courses offered
across a number of disciplines each semester and the
expertise of the instructors who teach them.
Pre-law advisement is offered through the
Advisement Services Center, and is readily accessible
to all interested students.
Dawn Kakumba has been the pre-law advisor
at the University at Albany for over fifteen years,
and Dr. Linda Scoville
has been an academic advisor at the University since
1996; both Dawn and Linda are members of the Northeast
Association of Pre-Law Advisors.
Each semester students are offered a variety of
pre-law programs sponsored by the Advisement Services
Center, and the Annual Capital District Law Fair is
held on the UAlbany campus every fall. Our campus is
also home to an active student-run pre-law association
and fraternity. The 3 + 3 Program, offered in
conjunction with Albany Law School, allows eligible
students to begin law school at the end of their
junior year.
University at Albany graduates have consistently
placed above the national average for law school
admission rates in the last several years, and Albany
graduates are admitted to law schools such as
Georgetown University, New York University, Columbia
University, the University of Pennsylvania, Boston
University, Boston College, Fordham, Benjamin Cardozo
School of Law, and Albany Law School, to name a few.
