CURRICULUM FOR BIOLOGY MAJORS

IN THE JOINT 7-YEAR BIOLOGY/DENTAL PROGRAM WITH

BOSTON UNIVERSITY GOLDMAN SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE

The following program outline is for students in the joint program with Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. The program is available only to those admitted as freshman. Transfer students are ineligible. The program requires that students complete three years (90 credits) of study at The University at Albany. Interested students must pursue a BS degree in Biology and maintain a 3.6 in both science and overall courses. Students should take the DAT in the spring of the sophomore year when they apply to the program. It is therefore expected that students who apply to this program will complete their Pre-Health file by February of the sophomore year. The file will include two (2) recommendations from the sciences and one (1) recommendation from the humanities and/or the social sciences. Students will attend the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine for the fourth year of study (and pay tuition at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine), beginning the first year of the professional program. With the completion of the fourth year of study, the student will be awarded a BS degree by the University at Albany.

Because the number of general education courses a student is required to fulfill, depends on New York State Regents Exam grades, a student may have to take summer school courses in order to complete all the General Education Requirements before moving to Boston University’s Goldman School of Dentistry. Please note, however, that a minimum of ninety credits must be completed at the University at Albany.
