New Transfer Student Academic Advisement

4. Create your Educational Plan

I know what my major is going to be.

I know my major, I have read the advice of my department and I am ready to create an educational plan.

The questions below will lead you through the process of identifying what you still need to complete to graduate, and how long this will take you.

Please complete the questions below to the best of your ability using your Degree Audit and evaluation of transfer credit.

*Note. Please use the Tab key or your mouse to navigate through the form. The Return/Enter key will automatically send your form, even if you have not completed it.

Part 1 Demographic Information
1. First name
2. Last name
3. Phone (best number at which to reach you)
4. UAlbany Email Address
(Students activate their WebMail account when they first set their password for MyUAlbany and UNIX accounts.  A student's email address is netid@albany.edu. )
@albany.edu
(type netid)
5. Alternate email address
6. Major I am pursuing
7. Minor I am pursuing (if required)

Part 2 Planning
Before you choose classes for the current semester, it is helpful to plan out how many semesters it will take you to complete the remaining requirements for your degree. You are advised to distribute courses for your major, minor and general education requirements fairly evenly across your remaining semesters. In order to plan this, you need to identify these requirements, and the number of semesters you will need to complete your degree.

Use your Degree Audit (DARS) answer the questions in Part 2.
Number of semesters to complete

1. Total credits needed to reach 120 credits

2. Number of credits you plan to take per semester (12 credits = fulltime; most students take 15)

3. Minimum number of semesters you need to complete (#1 divided by #2)

Part 3 The big picture

Now you can plot out the types of courses you will take in each remaining semester. For each category – major, minor, general education, elective – distribute the number of courses you will need to take evenly across the number of semesters you will be here. Be sure to map out the number of semesters that you identified in number 3 (minimum number of semester you need to complete) above.

Part 5
Please use this area to note any other information that you want your advisor to know about you.  This might include scheduling constraints, long range plans, academic concerns, or missing coursework on your Transfer Evaluation.

Upon submission, your Plan will be routed to your Academic Advisor. That Advisor will review your Plan and contact you with comments, suggestions, and/or questions. Once your Advisor believes that you have a realistic, workable Plan, you will be sent an AVN (Advisement Verification Number) which will allow you to access the online registration system.
