About the course: This is an introduction to the theory, techniques, and the most important applications of ODEs. The text is Elementary Differential Equations, by W.E. Boyce and R.C. DiPrima, 10th edition, John Wiley & Sons (2012).

Tests: There will be twelve tests. They will be short and given at the end of (almost) each Friday class starting September 4. I plan to grade them over the weekend and bring back on Mondays.  We are scheduled to meet on 13 Fridays, the only Friday without a test will be October 30. Only the best 10 grades you receive on tests will count toward your grade. This is important: there will be no makeups for the missed or failed tests. There will be a chance to earn an extra grade (10 points total) by doing a problem/project assigned the last week of class.  That grade would replace your third worst grade.

Reading/Homework: Read the sections we cover in class immediately before or after each lecture. Homework problems from the text will be assigned on this page after each class.  The assignments will appear in your university email boxes after each class. By default the due date is the next class.  I plan to spend time in the beginning of each class discussing the homework and answering questions.

Grades: The course letter grades will be based entirely on the test grades (plus the project grade if you decide to do it).  Each test is worth 10 points, which is 10 percent of the total grade.

The following information is added to satisfy the Minimum Contents of a Class Syllabus requirements. The prerequisites are AMAT 112-113 and AMAT 220 or their equivalents. The course is A-E graded. Attendance is critical to success in the class.
