The visible light communications (VLC) or LiFi technology emerges as a novel optical wireless communication (OWC) technology that leverages ubiquitous light sources, i.e. light-emitting diode (LED) ceiling lights or displays, to transmit data wirelessly. Operating on the visible light spectrum holds great potential to mitigate the bandwidth shortage and interference problems of the more established radio frequency (RF) based systems such as cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth. More recently we have seen growing research activities in light communications (LC) as a complementary wireless communications technology to the more established RF based systems. Research has already brought the technology close to commercialization and standardization, however several challenges still remain unsolved, especially when it comes to practical systems and identifying killer applications that can attract a wide adoption. The objective of this workshop is to explore light enabled networks and applications.
The Light Enabled Networks and Applications workshop, LENA 2019, will bring together a diverse community to present and brainstorm on a broad set of VLC and LiFi related topics. The workshop cordially invites researchers to share latest research and innovations in VLC and LiFi technologies, as well as their applications, including theory and practice in system design. We are seeking papers and demos on topics that include but are not limited to:
Indoor and outdoor channels and deployments
Modulation and coding techniques
Coexistence with RF wireless technologies
Medium access control issues including mobility management, interference mitigation, multi-user access, resource allocation and duplexing techniques
Network topology, modeling, routing, multi-hop, relay, load balancing and backhaul
Security and privacy
Localizations and sensing
Optical camera communication
Backscatter communications
Quantum communications
Energy efficiency, privacy and security
Information theory
Quality of service and experience
Signal processing techniques
Devices and hardware integration, experimental testbeds and characterizations
Applications including WLAN, IoT, vehicular, underwater, medical, industrial, robotics, human-computer interaction (HCI) designs, and more
