Special Notes:
THIS PROGAM DOES NOT LEAD TO A NY STATE INITIAL TESOL TEACHER CERTIFICATION. The TOEFL requirement for international applicants to the TESOL masters program is waived if the student has successfully completed 3 years of study in a degree program at a college or university in the U.S. and maintained a B or better average. Non-native speakers must have a minimum score of 600 on the paper-based, 100 on the internet-based, or 250 on the computerized-based TOEFL exam. An IELTS exam score of 7.0 is also acceptable in lieu of the TOEFL exam.
Please click here for additional program information regarding the TESOL programs.
The TESOL program requires three letters of recommendation. At least one letter should be from a past professor (or someone who has worked with you in an academic setting and can evaluate your academic capability). The other two can come from individuals who have observed you in a professional context (paid or unpaid employment). All the recommendations should come from people who would be able to evaluate your capability for academic success (collaborating, working independently and effectively, managing diversity, etc.).
Please note: This program requires an internship, field experience, study abroad component, or clinical experience requirement. Students who have previously been convicted of a felony are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or to meet licensure requirements for certain professions. If applicants have concerns about this matter please contact the Dean’s Office of the intended academic program.
