Do you believe language is a critical tool in bringing the world’s people and cultures together? We do, too.

The Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is an interdisciplinary program for students who wish to teach:

English as a second language (non-certified)

English as a foreign language: adult, college-level, overseas (non-certified)

English to speakers of other languages: K-12 (certified)

Dual Degree Program: Communication (M.A.) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (M.S.)
The University offers a dual master’s degree for students who plan to teach English as a foreign language and want a foundation in communication processes. This program is also suited for communication students in the interpersonal and intercultural concentration who are considering teaching English as a foreign language abroad. This degree does not lead to an initial NYS teaching certification in TESOL.

Advanced Certificate in TESOL (15 credits, fully online)
The program is designed for in-service teachers and other interested parties. It satisfies the NYS Requirements for English as a New Language Programs under Part 154. (“Certified teacher trained in cultural competency, language development and the needs of ENL students”). The target audience for this advanced certificate is mainly current content (7-12) and classroom (K-6) teachers.
