Special Notes:
New York State Certification program in TESOL (leads to NY State certification). This program is not available to international applicants. No prior certification required. Must have a major, minor, or concentration in one of the liberal arts and sciences. Please visit the University at Albany TESOL website for information regarding additional enrollment requirements. A minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA is required. The ETAP Department also requires one of the following entrance exams: GRE, edTPA, GMAT or Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators. Please contact the PIE Center (518-442-3529) with questions regarding the entrance exam requirement. Your examination results are evaluated as a portion of the overall admission package and a lower score does not mean an automatic denial if the other elements of the application are strong. Please contact the Pathways in Education (PIE) Center, if you have any admissions requirement questions.
Complete applications that meet all admission criteria are typically reviewed within two weeks of receipt. Interviews are usually scheduled once per month and are by invitation only. Please note: admission is contingent upon application materials and departmental interview.
Please click here for additional program information regarding the TESOL programs.
Please note: This program requires an internship, field experience, study abroad component, or clinical experience requirement. Students who have previously been convicted of a felony are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or to meet licensure requirements for certain professions. If applicants have concerns about this matter please contact the Dean’s Office of the intended academic program.
